THE PRONUNCIATION ERRORS OF STUDENTS OF SDN TAMBAKASRI 01 TAJINAN

English is a means of international communication and a means of acquiring more advanced knowledge in all fields. Since English is used as an international language, the Indonesian government has decided that English is given the priority as the first foreign language and should be taught to the students starting from the elementary school to the University. That English can be started to the fourth year students of Elementary school as a local contents subject because to introduce English to the early ages that is Elementary school students. English has four language skills, such as, listening, speaking, reading and writing, each of which has to be mastered by the learner as well as possible. Speaker, for instance, has great influence in mastering English communication. The aim of learning a language is to speak and language is viewed as a type of behaviour. But in speaking and reading we need the pronunciation, stress and intonation.

This study is intended to measure the students’ mastery in pronouncing English words, to find out what type of errors made by the students in pronouncing English word and to find out the students’ most dominant error in pronouncing English words. The result of this study will be beneficial especially, for students to make better in pronunciation and in prove the way of teaching.

The design of research is a descriptive research .To collect the data researcher ask the students to read a text, distributes the test to students, identifies the pronunciation and records the students’ errors in pronouncing English word. The population research was the four-year students at SDN Tambakasri 01 Tajinan Malang. The total number of the students is 27, which are grouped into one class. This study uses the pronunciation test, which was conducted orally to collect the data.

The result of, this study shows that the mastery of the students in pronunciation was good. The error is classified into three types of errors, such as pronouncing the errors of diphthong (long diphthongs and half diphthongs) 39,5%, Vowels (back vowels, close vowels, open vowels and central vowels) 28.4% and consonants (front consonants, blade-gum consonants, point-gum consonants a, hard consonants, back consonants and lip consonants) 12.2%, it is found out that error on pronouncing diphthong is the most dominant.
